Match Preview

As the Copa America group stage continues, the top two teams in Group B will meet on Thursday (24/6) IST when host nation Brazil takes on Colombia in Rio de Janeiro.

Brazil leads the group having won both of their opening two games, while their opponents sit second after an inconsistent start to the campaign, including a 2-1 loss to Peru in their last game.

Brazil comes into this match having had a perfect start to their Copa America title defense, having lifted the trophy for the ninth time in 2019.

They started the campaign with a 3-0 win over Venezuela, as center-back Marquinhos opened the scoring before Neymar doubled their lead in the 60th minute and allowed Gabriel Barbosa to add a third in stoppage time.

Tite's men also showed no signs of slowing down in their next match, as they beat Peru 4-0 in Rio de Janeiro. Alex Sandro, Neymar, Everton Ribeiro and Richarlison all got their names on the scoreboard as they continue to show that they are strong favorites in this summer's tournament.

Although they sit second in Group B, Colombia have somewhat failed to impress so far in the tournament, collecting four points from their opening three group games.

Colombia were actually favorites to win over Peru, who lost 4-0 to Brazil, after Reinaldo Rueda's side beat Ecuador 1-0 in their opener and drew 0-0 with Venezuela. Unfortunately Juan Cuadrado and his friends appeared disappointing with a 1-2 defeat at Goiania and kept their qualification to the round of 16 still on hold.
