Match Preview

One of the dark horse teams for the 2020 European Cup, Belgium will face host Russia in the first match of Group B on Sunday (13/06) at 9:30 IST. The match was held at the Krestovsky Stadium.

Although only the first match of the match will test the Red Devils' worthiness as dark horses, and even the potential surprise champions at the club Euro 2020. Understandably, the direction of Roberto Martinez's Belgium is considered to have a 'golden' generation in his squad.

Top players playing at a high level in Europe such as Eden Hazard (Real Madrid), Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City), Romelu Lukaku (Inter Milan), and Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid) are in the squad.

The match against the hosts will be interesting, as Stanislav Cherchesov's Russia is not one of the top teams, but can surprise with their collective play without a star in the team.

Belgium has a superior record of never losing against Russia in seven matches (won five and drew two). The two also met in the 2020 European Cup Qualifiers.

The only great record of Russia over Belgium when they were still called the Soviet Union with a record of four wins from five meetings. No doubt the record has been in favor of Belgium.

Team News

Belgium will be without their two key players against Russia. The two players are Axel Witsel and Kevin De Bruyne. Witsel has been injured since January with Borussia Dortmund, while De Bruyne is recovering with a fractured nose following the Champions League final with Manchester City.

Meanwhile, from the Russian side, names such as Dmitri Barinov, Roman Zobnin, and Fedor Kudryashov have the potential to be absent against Belgium for different reasons. Andrey Mostovoy was also replaced by Roman Evgeniev because he tested positive for the coronavirus.
