Match Preview

The schedule for the 2021 Copa America quarter-finals between Argentina vs Ecuador will take place on Sunday (04/7/2021). The Round of 8 matches at the Stadio Olimpico Pedro Ludovico, Brazil, can be watched via live streaming Sony network at 6:30 a.m. Indian time in the morning.

The Argentine national team is still trying to win the Copa America title after last winning it in 1993. La Albiceleste actually entered the final 4 times after that, including 2015 and 2016, but never won the final.

Lionel Messi certainly wants to win the 2021 Copa America after several failures. Collecting 3 wins and 1 draw made Argentina the winner of Group A. This is certainly a positive provision to face Ecuador in the quarter-finals later.

Currently, Messi is still a vital figure in Argentina. He contributed 3 goals and 2 assists as well as being the top scorer in this tournament. His additional 2 goals in the last match against Bolivia made Messi's goal collection to 75 goals for his country.

Messi is trying to catch Pele's record of 77 goals for Brazil. Therefore, against Ecuador, La Pulga will have the opportunity to increase his goal coffers.

Ecuador, on the other hand, came in as 4th in Group B without collecting a win. La Tricolor lost 1-0 to Colombia in the first match and then got 3 consecutive draws against Venezuela (2-2), Peru (2-2), and Brazil (1-1).

Being able to hold off a team of Brazilian caliber in the latest match seems to be a separate motivation for Gustavo Alfaro's squad ahead of dealing with Argentina.

"We will prepare our best team because we will face the best from other groups (Argentina)," said Alfaro quoted from Marca.

Argentina and Ecuador last met in the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers in October 2020. At that time, Ecuador gave fierce resistance. The score ended 1-0 in favor of Argentina with the only goal scored by Messi via a penalty.

However, if you look at the last 5 meetings between the two teams, Argentina dominated with 4 wins, and Ecuador only won once in 2015.
